The Knowledge Test consists of 40 multiple-choice or true/false questions typically taken on a computer. The student must answer 32 questions correctly to pass. You will be responsible to bring your son or daughter to one of the exam centers to take the test. We provide information in the Parent Letter and on the last day of class which includes all of the testing requirements and exam center locations.
Students will be given a temporary permit that is a valid Instruction Permit until their hard-card photo permit comes in the mail. The temporary permit is valid for 120 days. If the hard-card photo permit is not received within 120 days, it is your responsibility to call the Minnesota Department of Public Safety at the phone number shown on the temporary permit.
The Instruction Permit allows the student to practice driving with a licensed driver who is age 21 or older. The student must have the Instruction Permit with them at all times while driving. The student is required to hold the Instruction Permit for a minimum of six months before attempting their Road Test. The Instruction Permit is valid for two years and is renewable.
